A few nights ago I noticed that the moon was moving through some clouds and I thought it would be a good opportunity to do some time lapse photography. After capturing 1,500 images and watching the video back on my computer, I quickly realized that the time lapse video was not very exciting. One of the problems with using the images as time lapse video was that I set the exposure for the clouds and the moon was overexposed, which I knew at the time, but the clouds just weren’t that exciting in individual frames.
So, I decided to see what it would look like if I combined the best parts (the moon and lit clouds) of a few images from the sequence of shots. I took every 60th image from the total of 1,500 images, which gave me 20 images and combined only the brightest areas of each image into one picture. I was pleasantly surprised with the result and has me looking at time lapse photography in a new light.
